Financial Operations Lead

As Financial Operations Lead at Bildup AI, you will architect the financial systems and processes that enable us to scale responsibly and sustainably. You'll manage day-to-day financial operations, ensure compliance, generate insights that drive strategic decisions, and build the financial foundation for our mission to democratize AI education across Africa. This is a role for someone who sees finance not just as record-keeping, but as the backbone of organizational health—and understands that good financial operations give leadership the visibility and confidence to make bold moves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day financial operations and maintain accurate records—overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, expense management, recording all financial transactions, reconciling accounts, managing general ledger, and ensuring timely, accurate execution with data integrity across all financial systems.
  • Prepare financial reports and statements—generating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) that provide clear visibility into organizational performance.
  • Manage budgets, financial planning, and cash flow—supporting budget development, tracking actuals vs. projections, conducting variance analysis, monitoring cash positions, projecting future needs, and providing insights that inform resource allocation.
  • Ensure tax compliance and regulatory requirements—managing tax filings (including PAYEE), staying current on Nigerian tax regulations, coordinating with tax advisors, and ensuring full compliance with all obligations.
  • Implement and optimize financial systems and tools—leveraging accounting software automation tools, and financial dashboards to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support audits and financial due diligence—preparing documentation, coordinating with external auditors or investors, and ensuring audit-ready financial records.
  • Provide financial insights for strategic decision-making—analyzing financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks that inform leadership decisions on investments, pricing, and growth.
  • Build scalable financial processes—documenting procedures, creating internal controls, and establishing financial operations infrastructure that can support rapid organizational growth.

Ideal Candidate

  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting, financial operations, financial management, or bookkeeping with proven track record of managing financial operations for growing organizations, preferably in startups or mission-driven environments.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Experience with financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Deep understanding of Nigerian tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional accounting qualification (ICAN, ACCA, CPA) in progress or completed is a plus.
  • Strong desire to stay at the forefront of financial technology and automation.
