People & Culture Architect

You'll be responsible for shaping the employee experience, nurturing talent, and aligning our people strategy with the mission of democratizing AI education across Africa. This is a role for someone who sees HR not as compliance and paperwork, but as the strategic function that determines whether an organization scales successfully or collapses under its own growth—and believes that great culture is designed intentionally, not left to chance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end talent acquisition and onboarding—designing recruitment strategies, sourcing exceptional candidates, conducting interviews, building a diverse team, and creating comprehensive onboarding programs that help new hires understand our mission, master their roles, and feel connected from day one.
  • Design and implement performance management systems—creating frameworks that reflect growth, impact, adaptability, and continuous learning rather than outdated annual reviews.
  • Build and nurture organizational culture—defining and reinforcing our values, creating rituals and traditions, fostering psychological safety, embedding inclusive practices in hiring, development, and promotion, and ensuring culture evolves intentionally as we scale.
  • Develop and execute learning & development programs—creating pathways for employee growth, facilitating training, and ensuring our team stays at the forefront of their fields.
  • Implement modern HR technology and analytics—leveraging AI-powered tools for workforce planning, engagement tracking, performance insights, and data-driven people decisions.
  • Serve as strategic advisor on organizational design—partnering with leadership on team structure, role clarity, change management, and scaling challenges as we grow.
  • Manage employee relations and workplace policies—handling conflicts, ensuring compliance with labor laws, creating fair policies, and fostering trust between employees and leadership
  • Design compensation and benefits strategies—ensuring competitive, fair, and transparent total rewards that attract and retain top talent while maintaining financial sustainability.

Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years in HR, People Operations, or Organizational Development roles with proven impact in scaling teams across multiple locations in high-growth environments.
  • Deep understanding of modern HR technology and AI's impact on the future of work.
  • Strategic, systems-oriented thinker who can design scalable people infrastructure.
  • Empathetic, values-driven leader with strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in EdTech, tech startups, or mission-driven organizations will give you an edge.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building HR functions from scratch or transforming existing ones.
  • Commitment to full-time, onsite role with long-term organizational growth.
