AI/ML Engineer
As an AI/ML Engineer at Bildup AI, you build the intelligent systems transforming education across Africa. You'll develop and optimize the AI models, algorithms, and machine learning systems that power our personalized learning platform—enabling our AI Facilitators and Academic Advisors to adapt to each learner's unique needs, pace, and learning style. This is a role for someone who sees AI not as a replacement for human teachers, but as a tool to democratize access to world-class education—and believes that the most impactful AI systems are those that empower people rather than replace them.

Key Responsibilities
- •Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models—building conversational AI systems, recommendation engines, adaptive learning algorithms, and assessment tools that personalize education at scale.
- •Build recommendation systems for personalized learning paths—developing algorithms that analyze learner behavior, skill levels, and goals to suggest optimal content, pacing, and interventions.
- •Develop adaptive assessment and feedback systems—creating AI that can evaluate learner work, provide constructive feedback, identify misconceptions, and adjust difficulty based on performance.
- •Analyze data and collaborate with cross-functional teams—using engagement metrics, completion rates, assessment scores, and feedback to continuously refine models while translating educational requirements into technical implementations and ensuring AI capabilities align with pedagogical goals.
- •Ensure AI model accuracy, reliability, and safety—conducting rigorous testing, monitoring production performance, identifying and fixing issues, and implementing safeguards against harmful outputs.
- •Optimize model performance - improving inference speed, reducing computational costs, and ensuring AI systems can scale to serve millions of learners across Africa.
- •Stay current on AI/ML research and best practices—experimenting with cutting-edge techniques, attending conferences, reading papers, and bringing innovation to our educational AI systems.
Ideal Candidate
- •3+ years of experience in machine learning, AI development, or related technical roles with strong expertise in natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and conversational AI.
- •Proficiency in Python with deep experience in ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face).
- •Proven track record of building and deploying AI/ML systems in production environments with experience in model training, fine-tuning, evaluation, and optimization techniques.
- •Understanding of educational AI, personalized learning systems, or EdTech applications is highly valuable.
- •Strong problem-solving skills with ability to translate ambiguous requirements into technical solutions.
- •Passion for using AI to democratize education and empower learners across Africa.
